Update September 2026

Uke3A Explodes into Year Two at Ukeblast

Uke3A celebrated its first anniversary in rousing style at Ukeblast, held at Cherry Willingham Village Hall. The event was full to capacity, with 125 players and supporters enjoying a lively day of music, friendship and fun.

There were fourteen ukulele bands from across Lincolnshire—plus one group of raiders from neighbouring Nottinghamshire—each took to the stage to perform two songs, providing 30 individual band numbers. There was never a dull moment—or a long wait between performers—because the entire audience joined in with two songs between every group’s appearance. This clever format kept the music flowing and gave everyone the pleasure of playing as well as listening.

Eleven members of Uke3A performed at the event, supported by a consort of partners. The group was formed in September 2025, so Ukeblast was a fitting way to mark a full year of learning, rehearsing and making music together. Appearing before a packed hall also showed how much confidence and experience the members had gained in just 12 months.

For their two-song set, Uke3A played The Island of Dreams, written by Tom Springfield, followed by The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde by Georgie Fame. The contrasting choices brought both gentle melody and a livelier rhythm to the stage, adding to the variety offered by all 15 bands.

The friendly atmosphere was every bit as important as the music. Players met other groups, shared ideas and enjoyed performing together, while the audience heard a wide range of familiar and unexpected tunes. At the end of Ukeblast, Uke3A members all agreed that it had been a great day out—and the perfect way for the group to blast off into its second year.

Uke3A meets on Thursday afternoons, with a beginners’ session at 1.45pm and a session for more experienced players at 2.45pm. All are welcome.

With support from the U3A committee, the group has also bought a small PA system and microphones. This creates new learning opportunities for anyone interested in developing practical sound-engineering skills.
